Gosh! Two Whole Years!

I just looked at today's date and some cogs started whirring in my mind. A few clicks of the mouse and I had my answer.

It seems it was two years and two days ago that I had a day of poorliness that caused me not to go to work. Sitting (exactly where I am now, on the sofa, laptop on knee) in the living room I was not only feeling poorly but also feeling rather bored. In such a state it suddenly seemed like a good use of my time to read up on how to set up a blog.

A couple of hours later, this record of random thoughts, trip reports, gear ramblings and general nonsense had been born.

Four hundred and thirty five posts later (436 if you count this one), and it is still going. Apparently, some people actually read it these days too - and for that I thank you.

  1. Happy Birthday, it has been very enjoyable reading your blog. But even better having met you both as well.
See you on the Challenge in May at Oban. I still owe you a tenner at the moment. I haven't forgotten.

  4. Hi Gayle and Mick,
Still keeping up with your blog, you're a good story teller.
Had a day off work today and did my first Cannock Chase K2B training walk. Not as fit as I thought, did about 18 miles then gave up with a painful hip! Hopefully see you when your training route passes my house again:)

  10. Thanks for the comments one and each - nice to know that there are real people reading - not just numbers on a statistics website!

Darren - What route after Oban, that's what I want to know? Will you be publishing it soon?

Anonymous - If you like walking, then I can't recommend LEJOG highly enough. Start slowly and fitness is gained as you go along. I'd never felt fitter (or more tanned!) than when we reached the top of the Pennine Way. Didn't feel quite so fit by JOG, so next time we'll be taking a day off at some point during the Scottish leg!

Jeff - Really must put the November Tent (who may or may not be known as 'Dora') into use. Particularly as I may have slipped and ordered yet another tent today. Completely justified, of course...

Mike - we're unlikely to pass your house again (if we're going to walk field paths then generally I can't be doing with a car journey first when we've got plenty around here) on a training walk, but each time we're out on the Chase I do wonder if we'll bump into you. I suppose that if we were more organised we could tell you our plan in advance, which would, perhaps, increase the chance!

Alan - Cambridge clay: is that worse than our local 'crop field mud' which, by the time of exiting a field, makes it look like you're wearing a clown's shoes and completely negates the point of lightweight footwear?
