The Road goes ever on and on; Down from the door where it began;
Now far ahead the Road has gone; And I must follow, if I can;
Pursuing it with eager feet; Until it joins some larger way;
Where many paths and errands met; And whither then? I cannot say.

New Kit

Forgot to mention the other (more significant) change. A call to Backpackinglight.co.uk last week meant a parcel for me at the weekend, the main content of which was an OMM Trio Chestpouch.

It adds more weight and I was entirely unconvinced as to whether I would like it in use - but it did seem to be the answer to my constant changing of hats and gloves without having to keep taking my pack off.

Jury's still out as to whether I'll stick with it or whether it will stay in Halifax when we pass through next week, but I thought it worth a try.

The parcel also contained more Gehwol Footcream (a gorgeous luxury at the end of each day) to see us through to the end of the trip, and a new stuffsack (I've shuffled us a size in my two 'bits and pieces' bags). The bonus in the parcel was two packets of Skittles Crazy Sours. Oh, how I enjoyed my pack as we walked along yesterday!

  1. I didn't like the chest pouch and now use an Inov-8 RacePro 200 belt pack, reversed. The RacePro is better than other belt packs as the fastner is to one side, so it's not in the middle of your back when reversed, like other belt packs. I've found it to be ideal for bits and pieces I need on the move and I hardly notice I've got it on. It's also much easier when you take your pack off.

  2. Hi M & G.
    Just to be the devils advocate.
    I have used the OMM pouch for 2 years and i find it very very good. I don't have any problems putting it on or taking it off. I find it one of the most convenient pieces of kit i have because it's right there under your nose as they saying goes..
    I keep my wallet, camera, phone, GPS, small knife and a couple of plasters in it so that i don't have to keep taking off the rucksack.
    I don't use the drinks mesh as i find this takes up too much room. I also don't use it to keep my map in.
    Be aware that it isn't waterproof so make sure what ever you put in it is protected.

  3. Glad to hear you've got enough Gehwol. It's such excellent stuff.

  4. Just to let you know your podcast is now live, so be prepared for lots of helpful people on route ;-)

    The Gehwol Extra is for the mornings and the Refreshing Balm for the evenings. Not tried it the other way around ;-)

  5. Robin/Alan - The jury is still out on the chest pouch, but it seems fine so far (except it can make getting through some kissing gates rather trickier!). Not finding it too much of a faff to get my pack on and off, and it's certainly useful having somewhere so handy to put the little bits and pieces.

    Karen/Bob - Don't think I could do a walk like this without the luxury of the footcream. At the moment, we do have both the Refreshing Balm (end of a tube) with us, and the Extra (new tube), but we're still only using one or the other.
