The Road goes ever on and on; Down from the door where it began;
Now far ahead the Road has gone; And I must follow, if I can;
Pursuing it with eager feet; Until it joins some larger way;
Where many paths and errands met; And whither then? I cannot say.

Sorting Through The Photos

I’m sorting through the PCT photos and will post some soon (I need to be more ruthless with the sorting first; I fear that I could become a holiday-photo bore here!). Here are just a couple few as a taster:
My favourite day in the desert. You can’t possibly get a feel for it from a photo, but it was an area of gentle lumps and bumps. It was also an area with almost no shade, and on a day when I had grossly under-calculated our water requirement. We walked fast to make sure we finished the uphill bits before the day got too silly-hot, and were saved by a nice breeze.

And here’s one, chosen completely at random (I’ve got so many from this area!), from the High Sierra. We were just on our way to Pinchot Pass, wondering whether we were going to go for a “2 pass day” (we didn’t, we stopped short of Mather Pass):

And here’s another High Sierra one, but with some water in it:

Oh, just one more! There’s a bear in the middle of this shot; the only bear we saw on the whole walk (we both saw it, but were a third of a mile away from each other at the time, as I’d sent Mick off-trail to collect water):

  3. Karen - glad you enjoyed the journey!

    Laura - Glad there are no bears here. Equally glad there are no cougars here. Or rattle snakes. Pity we don't get the California sunshine, though!

  4. You'll be on another adventure soon.

    I thought that was just Mick in that last photo, in need of a good wash and haircut. :)

  5. Nothing wrong with that Gayle.
    You look very clean in the vid. No sign of dust.
    That bears a bit close. Did it do a runner when it saw you two. ha

  6. Andrew - finding it hard to motivate myself to go on another adventure in the current weather! I think we picked a good 'summer' to spend time in California.

  7. Alan - The camera must have had a special 'anti-dirt' filter as, when I took that clip, I hadn't seen a bathroom in 13 days!

    The bear didn't do a runner, which was a little disconcerting, as that's what they're supposed to do. It did, however, take a circuitous route around me, rather than taking any interest in the food I was cooking at the time - which was something of a relief.

  8. Thirteen days? So it couldn't smell the food then... ;-)
