The Road goes ever on and on; Down from the door where it began;
Now far ahead the Road has gone; And I must follow, if I can;
Pursuing it with eager feet; Until it joins some larger way;
Where many paths and errands met; And whither then? I cannot say.

Day 15 - by Shiptonthorpe to Kilnwick Percy

3 April (1600-1800)
Distance: 6 miles (Tot: 257)
Weather: rain to our left (we caught a few drop), blue sky to our right
Number of day-old lambs within sight of the tent: 8

We really didn't walk very far today. The journey would take quite a long time if every day started at 4pm and ended at 6! But, this was a rest day, so a two hour walk seemed plenty long enough.

Before we set out on such an arduous leg, we needed to prepare ourselves, and a big, tasty roast dinner set us up nicely (thank you M&B for the bed, food, facilities and transport) for the task ahead.

Back at the point where Mick left the Wolds Way yesterday we wasted no time in picking it back up and were soon admiring the grounds of Londesborough Park. Half an hour later and my legs were in for a shock. When I left our route on Thursday morning things were still gently undulating. Today, as we left Nunburnholme, my legs didn't know what had hit them when there was a distinct and sustained uphill bit.

The benefit of the uphill was, of course, that it gave stunning views of the flatness to the west. One information sign pointed out the visible features in that flatness, most of which were the cooling towers of various power stations. The view also allowed us to see all of the rain passing a short distance away from us, and it seemed inevitable that some of that rain would reach us.

Some of that rain did reach us too, but nothing of any significance until after the tent was up and our kit inside. Good timing once again. Alas, this time I fear that it's not going to clear away conveniently at 7am.

(As for today's photo, as we passed through that farmyard we did feel like we were being watched)
